A few people have asked me why the baby is called “Scrappy”, perhaps expecting a heartwarming story about a tough little foetus that braved the odds. The reason that Scrappy is called Scrappy is because in Scooby Doo, they had a perfect cartoon that everyone was content with,when suddenly Scrappy Doo came along and ruined it all for everyone.
There is precedent for my naming of the unborn, Grace was called Dudley in utero . The reason for this is that everytime Dee called me to feel her kicking she would immediately stop when I put my hand on Dee’s stomach. I called the baby a dud, then Dudders, then Dudley. The name stuck for the rest of the pregnancy.
