The fund now stands at just under £5,000 which is incredible, thanks to everyone who has donated and tweeted and retweeted and blogged or did anything to spread the word.
I was asked earlier on Twitter where the rest of the money goes, now the fund has easily cleared the original expenses and fine. The simple answer is it is going towards the appeal. Jackofkent has secured an excellent appeals lawyer,Stephen Ferguson, at a discounted price. Appeals cost money, I will try and get a handle on how much money it could cost and post that information here soon.
In the event of any money being left over it will be donated to a civil liberty group. I still have no information on what group yet.The Paypal account was a quick solution to get a fund up and running as soon as possible so as to get as much money as possible while people were still outraged and I believe it did that.
However there is a trust being set up. Robert Dougans has agreed to be a trustee of the appeal fund, and I believe I will be too. It is everyone’s desire that this fund, and the spending of it be as open and as transparent as possible, indeed it was the first thing that @crazycolours, Paul’s girlfriend said to me when she rang to discuss the setting up of the fund.
There will be a proper website set up in the near future, as I am aware this blog isn’t sufficient, but again, it served it’s purpose at the time. I am not sure how much input I will have in that, I would imagine it will mainly be content from Jackofkent covering the more legal aspect of the case.
